Racecar drivers have been known to double up when the opportunities have presented themselves to race in different types of cars on the same day. However, few have pulled off an opposite end of the spectrum double like USAC racing star Brody Roa has planned for this Saturday. Starting in the afternoon, he will race a KT100 Kart before strapping himself into his famous green 91R sprint car at Perris Auto Speedway that night.
Roa’s Saturday racing saga will begin at the SoCal Fair Motorcycle Speedway on the SoCal Fair and Event Center in Perris. At noon, Roa will pull on his helmet and contest the So Cal Oval Karters Yamaha of America KT100 races in a kart owned by his longtime friend Matt Jones. While it will be Roa’s first appearance with his old friends in the SCOK in 2018 and his first ever race on the new track, he is anything but a stranger to kart racing. Roa’s path to sprint car stardom began in kart racing where he won his first racing championships.
Roa will not be the only family member contesting the races at SoCal Fair Motorcycle Speedway. His wife Tailor, a semi regular in the SCOK, will be doing battle in the Caltrol Incorporated Senior Clones.
As soon as he is done at the kart race, Roa will walk a few hundred feet to Perris Auto Speedway for the night’s sprint car show. Coming off an eye-catching fifth place finish in the USAC National Series at the Knoxville Raceway two weeks ago, the Garden Grove, California resident will start the night on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval third in the USAC/CRA championship points standings. He is only six points out of second and 21-markers out of the lead.
For fans wishing to attend either or both races on Saturday, the SCOK kart race will begin at noon. The gates for the sprint car race will open at 5:00 P.M. with racing at 7:00. The tracks are located a few hundred feet apart on the SoCal Fair and Event Center in Perris at 18700 Lake Perris Drive (92571).
