(Buena Park, CA, April 18, 2018) Brody Roa returned to action in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series last Saturday night and placed third in the main event at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California. The finish propelled him from sixth to second in the championship standings heading into this Saturday’s race at Perris Auto Speedway.
A week after his win at the nearby Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, the Garden Grove based driver and his team made the 200 mile trek to Tulare for the series only appearance of the year. Nineteen other cars were on hand for the first USAC/CRA race at the Thunderbowl since 2013. When qualifying came to a conclusion, Roa timed in third quick with a lap of 16.021. He then came from sixth starting spot to place second in his 10-lap heat race.
The 27-year-old started the 30-lap main event in the fourth starting slot. Using the outside, he momentarily raced his way into third place on lap two. One go around later he was up to second before slipping back to third.
Roa stayed in third until the midway point of the race when he again took over the runner up spot on the track that was taking rubber. On a lap 16 restart he momentarily poked his nose into the lead coming off turn two, but could not assert himself into the top spot. He did the same a few times more, but could never wrestle the point position away from the leader. When the checkered flag waved, he crossed the line with a hard earned third place finish.
“I was trying to go where Austin (race winner Austin Liggett) wasn’t,” Roa explained to longtime announcer Bobby Gerould after the race. “I was trying to do anything I could. We were a little free getting through the center of one and two. I could get alongside him coming off, but I could not do anything with him (past that). All in all it was a good night and now we are on to Perris.”
The team is poised and ready for this Saturday’s race at the home track of the USAC/CRA Series, Perris Auto Speedway. Known as “The PAS,” it was the site of the biggest win of Roa’s career when he won the Friday night main at the prestigious Oval Nationals last November.
Fans who would like to attend this Saturday’s race in Perris can find the track at 18700 Lake Perris Drive (92571). The office phone is 951-940-0134 and the track website is available at the following link http://perrisautospeedway.com/
After this week’s race in Perris, the team will get a week off before journeying to the Ventura Raceway for a USAC/CRA race on Cinco de Mayo.
Roa is still looking for rides in the USAC National and West Coast Series’ when his USAC/CRA schedule (which is at the end of this release) permits. Car owners from those series interested in hiring Roa can call him at 714-932-7994.
